Dear Parents: Upon the recommendation of the Diocesan School Board Finance Committee, Bishop John C. Wester has reviewed and approved the tuition rates for the 2010-2011 school year. After careful consideration of our current economic times, the rates will be increased by approximately $9.00 per month for the Regular rate and $8.00 per month for the Qualified Catholic rate. This translates to a 2.0% increase, which is primarily due to a very modest staff pay increase and bare minimum facility maintenance related expenses. Please find enclosed the Saint John the Baptist Catholic Schools 2010-2011 Tuition and Fee Schedule and a Tuition Information Form , which needs to be completed and returned by February 5th.
The mission of our “Catholic Schools” is to make a “Catholic education available to every child who wishes to attend a Catholic school.” We offer this educational opportunity to as many students and families as possible, without regard to their “diverse economic, racial and ethnic backgrounds.” We are able to offer diverse programs and support our mission through the generous support and contributions of the Skaggs Family, The Vivian Skaggs Armstrong Foundation, the financial support of our parishes, our families, friends and our community. We feel that the elementary and middle school programs and opportunities we offer are truly unique and a value in today’s educational system. Without your personal support and commitment, we would not be able to offer these educational and developmental programs to our children.
We offer two payment options, a monthly and a full payment plan. Families paying tuition and fees in full by June 4th will receive a family discount of $100.00. Families paying on a monthly basis must do so through our automatic payment program administrated by FACTS Tuition Management. Monthly payments are spread over 11 months, beginning June 2010 and ending in April 2011.
New for 2010-2011 is the capability of paying monthly on your Discover, MasterCard or American Express card. For more information, please call Ruth Fitzpatrick at 801-984-7665 or see (FACTS Credit Card Payment Option ).
In keeping with our mission, families who are not capable of paying our full tuition rates may apply for financial assistance. Families must indicate that they will be applying for assistance by checking the box at the bottom of the enclosed 2010-2011 Tuition Information Form, and can apply online at www.factstuitionaid.com. Financial assistance is based upon the financial need of the family, our budgetary capabilities, and requires a detailed financial disclosure. This information is reviewed by a third party, FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment (FGAA), and is kept strictly confidential. The analysis then provides the school with the recommended parental contribution for education. The deadline for financial aid applications is March 31, 2010. Families will be contacted about financial aid awards in a timely manner. If you have any questions about the financial aid process, please call Ruth Fitzpatrick at 801-984-7665.
We would like to make you aware of a scholarship program that could be of great benefit to you and Saint John the Baptist Catholic Schools. Children First Utah is an independent, non-profit organization established by volunteers to promote and finance a variety of educational opportunities for students in Utah. Their purpose is to help offset the cost of tuition for families with children entering grades K-8. All funding is provided from private businesses, charitable and individual contributions. Scholarships are for one-half of the total tuition fee (up to $1,800). They are awarded for a period of one year but are renewable for additional years if the family continues to meet the financial eligibility requirements. Though scholarships are awarded primarily to students just starting in private schools, 10% of the scholarships will be given to students who are already enrolled. If you would like to learn more about CFU, or apply for their scholarship, please visit their website at www.childrenfirstutah.org.
Your commitment to your student(s) and our programs is commendable. Skaggs Catholic Center Finance Office
